Build the Darn Bed

This weekend Greg and I built our first raised garden bed.
I didn't know exactly where it was going to go. I'd been thinking about it for a while, but I hadn't landed on the perfect spot.
So we built it anyway.
The first side took forever. The other three went fast because we had a pattern.
We had to go back to the store twice. We made adjustments. We problem-solved.
And not once did we tell ourselves we were failing. We just kept going and made the figuring out part of the fun.
Once the panels were done, we walked around the property holding one side until we found a place that worked.
The decision came after the doing. Not before.
That's how it works with most things. Not just gardens.
Brave doesn't show up before you do the thing. Brave shows up while you're doing it.
If you've been waiting for the perfect moment, the perfect plan, the perfect amount of certainty - you're going to be waiting a long time.
Maybe you just need to build the darn bed.

No One Taught You This Part

You've been calling yourself a VA for a while now.
Maybe you have a client or two. Maybe you've had a few.
But something isn't clicking.
You're not telling people about your business because you don't know what to say. You're charging less than you should. You're counting clients instead of billable hours.
This is not a you problem. This is a no-one-taught-you-this problem.
Kathy was a VA for 20 years. Worked through agencies. Charged $20 an hour. Her own family thought it was a hobby.
Same skills. Same experience. No system.
Today her clients pay her $55 an hour. She works from home with her two dogs. Takes time off whenever she wants. Her family finally sees her business as real.
Nothing changed except how she saw herself.
If you've been dabbling but not getting traction, you're not broken. You're just missing the system.

I've always felt different. Like I'm not quite like other people.
Whenever I have to do something new, I'm brought back to sophomore year. New girl. Walking into the cafeteria. No idea where to sit.
That day, I saw another new girl. I walked over. Sat down.
I saw her last week. We're still friends.
One scary moment. Almost 50 years of friendship.
When I started my VA business at 50, it felt the same. I didn't know if it would work for me. I had all the reasons it might not.
I started anyway.
The women who succeed at this aren't the ones who feel ready. They're the ones who start before they feel ready.
If you're standing at the door right now, wondering if there's a seat for you, I want you to know: There is.
