Not an inspired Monday
Oct 05, 2026
It's gray and wet here in Virginia this morning. There's a long list on my desk. And when I sat down to write this newsletter, I had nothing.
No story. No big idea. I waited a few minutes for one to show up. It didn't.
So I'm writing about that.
I started this newsletter on April 16, 2018. Every other week at first, then every week. I have missed exactly one. Not the year we moved 415 miles and made 11 trips back and forth to Connecticut. Not on the weeks when I had a full client load and a business to run on top of it.
And I can tell you most of those issues were not written on inspired days.
Here's the deal: inspiration was never what kept it going. Monday was.
From the beginning, it was a way to stay in touch with the people in my life. I reached out one at a time on LinkedIn to everyone I knew and asked them to subscribe. I've used a newsletter to start three businesses. Now it's how I show up for this community. Every week.
That's what I call the Sprinkling Machine. A little bit of you, in front of everyone you know, on a regular schedule. So when someone needs help, they don't have to go looking. They already know who to ask.
The Sprinkling Machine doesn't run on mood. The people in your life don't know what kind of morning you had. What they know is that your name showed up again. And again. And the week someone asks them if they know a good Virtual Assistant, yours is the name they think of.
That doesn't happen because one conversation was brilliant. It happens because you kept showing up.
If you've been waiting to tell people about your business until you have the right words, you don't need them. Tell your friends. Your family. Your past co-workers. Your babysitter. I'm not kidding. Say what you do in one plain sentence and let them know you're taking clients.
It doesn't have to be perfect.
It just has to be said.
It's Monday. Tell someone.
