The Chickens Taught Me Something

I spent 45 minutes with my chickens this morning.

Not rushing. Not checking my phone. Just being present.

That's rare for me. My brain is usually three steps ahead.

But here's what I've learned: You can't slow down when someone else controls your time. You can't be present when you're always rushing to meet someone else's deadlines.

When I built my VA business 15 years ago, everything changed. My life doesn't feel compartmentalized anymore. Work happens. Life happens. They flow together.

You Can't Grow a Business on Empty

For years, I ran my business on bagels, Taco Bell, and Diet Coke.

I wasn't trying to eat poorly. I was just trying to keep up.

But here's what I noticed: By 3 PM, my brain was foggy. I didn't feel good in my skin. I wanted to hide and stay small.

And you can't grow a business from that place.

You can't confidently reach out to your network. You can't show up on social media. You can't talk about your pricing when you're trying to hide.

Here's the truth I learned after 15 years.

You can't build on empty.

When you eat well, you think clearly. When you think clearly, you show up better. And when you take care of yourself? Your confidence grows.

Your business is only as sustainable as you are.
