I went anyway

In 2019, I went to an industry conference for Virtual Assistants with Greg in San Antonio, Texas. 

1,580 miles as the crow flies from Connecticut. Not a quick trip. 

At the time, my Facebook group had about a hundred members. Mostly friends and family.

I had no course to sell. No program to pitch. I was just a VA who wanted to start teaching other VAs, and I wasn't sure if it was going anywhere. 

I spent a few thousand dollars to be there. Flights. Hotel. Registration. Time away from billable hours with clients. 

And honestly? I was scared. 

I worried it was a waste of money. I worried I wasn't ready. I worried I'd embarrass myself when I met people who were further along than me. 

I went anyway. 

That conference changed everything. 

I met people who are still in my community today. Still supporters. Still friends. I came home with clarity about what I needed to do next. I came home inspired in a way I couldn't have figured out alone. 

If I had waited until I "could afford it," I wouldn't be where I am now. 

If I had waited until I felt ready, I would have been one of those people who tried something, worked really hard, and wondered why it didn't work. 

Here's what I've learned: there's never a perfect time. 

Life happens. Every single day, something comes up. A bill. A trip. A family situation. A reason to wait. 

And if you keep waiting for the perfect window, it will slide right past you. 

Going to an event in your industry isn't a luxury. It's fuel. It's the thing that takes you to the next level. It's more important than a vacation because it changes how you see yourself and what's possible. 

You don't wait until you have the money. You don't wait until you feel like you deserve it. You invest in yourself before you're ready, and then you grow into it.
