Get Out There!

The Virtual Assistant Connection: Get Out There

Setting up your Virtual Assistant business well as you’re getting started is important. By nature, VA’s are people who like to do things the “right” way and are thorough in our research and decision-making process. And that’s one of the big reasons why our clients love us.

However, if we spend too much time making everything perfect before getting out there this can get in the way of getting started with clients.

If this is you, here are some things to remember:

  1. You’ll figure out the systems as you go. When I started out I had a notebook, laptop, cell phone and some post-its. Over time I set up project management software, an electronic system to take notes, credit card processing, etc. I didn’t need all of the processes back then when I was getting started and only had a handful of clients.

One of the reasons I think my systems serve me so well today is because they evolved as my business evolved. If I had the systems that I use now in place back then I would have felt like I was drowning in technology.
  2. Your branding isn’t the most important thing. If you don’t have a name for your business, start with your name – for example, Belinda Wasser, Virtual Assistant Services. If you don’t have a logo, look over at Etsy for some affordable options. Having this in place is necessary in the long run, but it shouldn’t stop you from getting out there and starting your business.
  3. You can’t know what you don’t know. People will ask you questions that you don’t know the answer to – it still happens to me after nine years of being a Virtual Assistant. Just trust that you’ll figure it out as you go. Clients don’t expect you to be able to do or know everything. Be willing to say “I don’t know, but I can find out.”

It’s scary to get started and a lot more fun to get lost in the feeling of being busy by getting ready. But trust me, once you have a few clients and get in the groove, you’ll be so happy. And you can keep improving and growing your systems and processes as you grow.
