The Virtual Assistant Connection: Avoiding the “Wrong” Clients

We’ve all done it… let someone hire us who’s not a good fit. Sometimes you know right away, other times it takes a while to figure it out.

The only thing worse than firing a client is working with a client who makes your life miserable.

This can spill over into all your work and drive you crazy to boot. Fortunately, you can usually avoid both of these situations by being careful about whom you agree to work with.

Common red flags regarding “problem” clients include repeated “emergencies,” clients who don’t respect you and treat you well, clients who bad-mouth employees or other professionals they’ve hired, and clients who don’t pay promptly.

Above all, trust your gut (that queasy feeling in your stomach is there for a reason). Remember that working relationships are a two-way street. Just because they want to work with you doesn’t mean you can’t say no (or walk away at a later date).
