Get Out There!

Setting up your Virtual Assistant business well as you’re getting started is important. By nature, VA’s are people who like to do things the “right” way and are thorough in our research and decision-making process. And that’s one of the big reasons why our clients love us. However, if we spend too much time making everything perfect before getting out there this can get in the way of getting started with clients. In this episode of The RocketGirl Show, I'll share some things to remember to get started.

I'm Belinda Wasser also known as RocketGirl and today we're going to talk about the importance of just getting out there. 

When you're a Virtual Assistant, there is a tendency to want to make sure that when we set up our business that everything is perfect before we tell anyone about it. I totally get that. I understand and it's part of what makes us good Virtual Assistants. Right? We just don't fling something out there. We make sure that everything is set up exactly as it should be. However, when it comes to starting your business, this can really delay you and slow you down from getting clients and getting that money making machine going.

So what I wanna talk about is a few things that you might not think are true. The first one is you're gonna figure your systems out as you go. You really are. When I started out, I had a stack of notebooks, a pen, some post-its, a laptop and I had my cellphone. I didn't have all these elaborate systems. That's all I really had and over time, I realized, "Oh, I need to be able to take electronic notes."

I've heard of Evernote. "I think I'll try that or oh, you know these notebooks are not working anymore. I think I should probably look at some project management software." I've heard of Asana, so I checked it out. That's really how this works. It's a little at a time as you go.

The business that I built with all the bells and whistles you know the debit card and the calendar management acuity. All of that took me years to build. So you can get out there and tell people about you know about yourself before it's all perfect. You'll keep working on your business as you go, but you can start before that .

The second thing to know is that your branding is not the most important thing. I know we all want a beautiful logo. I know we all want to know what our
colors are. We want to have it nailed down. I totally get that. However, that's the word of today.

I had two clients before I even knew what I was doing. I was like tempting a little bit and then I  know a couple of people asking for some help and then it kind of evolved and I figured out what I was doing. So if you don't have it all figured out, you can still start making money. You can still start working and again you'll find your logo, look on Etsy. There are some very affordable options there that are beautiful and it might be a couple of it for you but branding is important, but it's not the most important
thing. So don't let that be a roadblock.

Okay this one actually set me free. You can't know what you don't know. I see you guys out there. I know because I was the same way. I can't go out and be a VA, if I don't know these twenty things, that really well and I'm here to tell you you can you can you have to get comfortable with saying phrases like "I don't know but I can find out."

And I thought the world was going to melt when I said that the world did not melt what happened is my client, it's not that they're ever upset that I don't know they just don't want to figure it out. They want me to figure it out. So be willing to do that is a big part of why my clients hire me.

In the early days, I used to quietly Google in the background so someone would say something like, "Hey I need to update my email signature and outlook. Do you know how to do that?" And I would say "Hold on a second, let me look." And I would Google and then right there the instructions are right there. Right? It's they're
always right at the top.

And I would say we'll try this and this and I would act kind of like I knew what I was doing. Now, this is what I say and I've been doing this for years. "Hold on, let me Google it and they wait while I Google it and then we do it together and again they're not, they're never thinking. "Oh my gosh. I can't believe she doesn't know that!"

I can't know everything plus software changes every 10 seconds right? You know there are times when I've been on with you guys and I'm looking for something and they moved it the night before now, I can't do this thing that I knew how to do you know for a long time. so you just can't know everything and it's okay.

Clients just want you to be able to figure it out for them. Okay so, before we go, oh and one more point I wanted to make I know how fun how much fun it is to set up your business and get everything perfect but there is nothing like being busy with client work to make you so so happy.

 So trust me and you'll still find time to work on your business and you'll make it you know as spectacular as you can. I want you to. I want you to make it a showcase to show off how amazing you are, but you can start getting clients before that.
